To promote a fun and convenient outdoor reading culture, Seoul City will launch a unified reading map platform called ‘Hip Reading Hotspot Map (Here’s Your Hip Reading Hotspot)starting in May. As Seoul’s outdoor library initiatives have gained national attention, this project aims to expand access to reading-friendly public spaces across the country and broaden the reach of reading culture.

The Hip Reading Hotspot Map provides integrated information not only on Seoul’s outdoor libraries but also on similar facilities across the nation, including details such as the location, operating periods, and hours of operation. Citizens can easily search for nearby outdoor libraries based on their current location and access detailed information via the website.

In addition to outdoor library listings, the platform also features themed sections from the newly launched public book club ‘The Hip Book Club’, including Nomad Reading Routes, Seoul-Style Bookstores, Recommended outdoor reading spots, highlighting great places to enjoy a book.

Among the platform’s various features, the most anticipated is the Nomad Reading Route. This unique program encourages Nomad Reading, a lifestyle where readers explore scenic spots across the country to enjoy books outdoors. It is a signature offering for members of the Hip Reading Club. The first Nomad Reading event, titled Moonlight Reading, was held on Friday, May 9 at 6 PM at Norakdang in Unhyeongung Palace, Jongno District, and more routes will be introduced sequentially.

Starting in June, Seoul will also run a special feature titled My Own Hip Reading Hotspot, where citizens can recommend their favorite outdoor reading places. Submissions will be accepted via social media, and selected spots will be added to the Hip Reading Hotspot Map for everyone to explore. Contributors with outstanding suggestions will receive small gifts. The city’s goal is to turn any pleasant outdoor space in Seoul into a recognized reading destination.
