The NLK signs an MOU with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library in the UAE

- An agreement expected to promote bilateral exchanges of knowledge and information -

The National Library of Korea (Chief Executive Suh Hye Ran) signed a memorandum of understanding on January 16 on interlibrary exchanges with the Mohammed bin Rashid Library (Chairman Mohammed Ahmed Al Mur) in Dubai, UAE, which will become the largest library in the Middle East when it open in April.

The MOU was inspired by the ROK-UAE Knowledge Culture Exchange Ceremony held to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries. The ceremony was held on January 16 and attended by President Moon Jae-in, First Lady Kim Jung-sook, and Princess Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, among others.

The MOU includes commitments on sharing library information and experiences; development of human resources exchanges, exchange of and cooperation on publications; sharing knowledge and information resources including digital materials; and mutual cooperation on book exhibitions.

The two libraries will share information and their experiences in the library field and improve their mutual cooperation. The NLK will donate high-quality Korean books to the MBR every year in an effort to help the MBR develop into a hub for Korean culture and Korean Studies in the region.

“I hope our two libraries achieve and benefit from practical outcomes of this continued cooperation and provision of global library services,” said NLK Chief Executive Suh Hye Ran. “I believe this MOU will provide fertile soil for the development of research on Korea and Korean Studies in UAE and the development of research on the Middle East in South Korea.”
