Five exhibitions and performance events to be launched to share

the charms of Korean culture with the world,

starting with the Hangeul Experiment Project

- Five exhibitions and performance events highlighting Korean culture, including paintings, dance, and traditional music,

will be held from April 2023 through March 2024 in 15 cities in 14 countries -

The Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS, Director Kim Jangho) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism is planning to launch a world tour featuring five exhibitions and performance events that are designed to display the quintessence of Korean culture. The events will be held in 15 cities in 14 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

In partnership with a number of national cultural and art institutions, KOCIS has planned this program as a means to share superb South Korean exhibitions and performance events with people around the world through the overseas Korean Culture Centers. The tour includes two exhibitions (the Hangeul Experiment Project and Korea’s Colored Paintings) and three performances (Mukhyang (the scent of ink), Double Bill, and K-Maestro). The tour begins with the Hangeul Experiment Project in Poland co-hosted by the National Hangeul Museum and the Korean Cultural Center in Poland. It will continue until March of next year.

The Hangeul Experiment Project: About 30 works of Hangeul design presented in the form of artistic or industrial content

With a goal to raise global awareness of the cultural value of Hangeul, the Hangeul Experiment Project exhibition has been successfully organized by the National Hangeul Museum four times since 2016. In this exhibition, Hangeul is reborn as artistic and industrial content in the form of graphic design, furniture, replicated artifacts, and media art. This exhibition of about 30 works showing the creative principles and formative characteristics of Hangeul is scheduled to be held at the Korean Cultural Center in Poland from April 5 through May 31. It will then move on to the Korean Cultural Centers in Germany and in Austria. The opening ceremony was held on April 4.

Combining the charm of Korean culture with efficiency through tours by region

This support program for the Korean Cultural Centers, the first of its kind implemented by KOCIS, is designed to minimize expenses, including the cost of freight transportation and airfare, by scheduling events by region so that they can tour sequentially in neighboring countries/cities while still expanding the opportunities for people around the world to enjoy Korean culture in their own countries. Inspired by the success of this program, KOCIS plans to explore similar partnerships with local governments and public/private cultural institutions in other countries.
